Key Takeaways

Expensive for Teams

Notion's pricing can become quite steep for larger teams, especially with its seat-based pricing model. Costs can escalate quickly as more users are added, and premium features like guest access and version history can significantly increase the price.

Billing Issues

Users have reported confusion around Notion’s billing system. There can be unexpected charges when reaching user or block limits, and additional fees are often incurred without clear warnings.

High Per-User Cost

The per-user pricing model, especially at $10 per user for some plans, can be considered high, particularly for small businesses or startups.

What users say about Notion pricing

The difference between a guest user and a team space user is a bit confusing. I had some trouble setting this up correctly with some of my clients. Second, I was told to upgrade my account because I reached the block limit. I immediately upgraded, but out of a sudden, there was a warning that I had to upgrade again... This resulted in annoyed clients who are collaborating with me on Notion. The price is also a little high, with $10 per user.

Notion's pricing model can be expensive for larger teams, especially if they require access to premium features like guest access and version history.

Without our knowledge, Notion set up a function where anyone we shared a 'guest' link with automatically was prompted to create an account for which we were billed at full price. All our pages were public anyway, so creating an account didnt reap any additional benefits. Nevertheless, we were charged for all these users. Resulting in an enormous bill. When contacting support, they didn't want to help. And referred to their policy of not refunding after 3 days from the billing cycle.

Notion uses seat-based plans, meaning there is a certain number of users per paid plan. Go over that, and you get upgraded - standard stuff. But what it doesn't really clarify is that everyone you invite to cooperate - even a person who left one comment in a marketing plan - is counted towards that cap. There is no warning, you simply get billed on the spot. Even worse, you don't get any kind of banner or email after the upgrade. Your card simply gets billed. There is a very narrow cancellation window, so if you don't notice the extra charge in time - you're out of luck. They did give us Notion credit when we complained as a way to compensate. But when your company is forced to pay more than double the initial price asked, it felt as good as giving us some Monopoly money. Thanks guys.

Notion AI has been awesome at writing notes and summarising information and it has even helped plan my dissertation for my final year of university. It has a lot of features built in and it's 110% worth the asking price of $10 a month which is a steal.
